We are seeking a passionate and skilled Health and Safety Advisor to join our team on a fulltime basis in Christchurch. WasteCo is a leading waste solution provider, taking action with waste - from medical and quarantine waste to road sweeping and even urgent spill response. This role provides an exciting opportunity to support continuous improvement of a high-risk industry and protect our people, communities and environment. 

You will work alongside managers supporting with documentation, incident and hazard management, training and providing best practice advice to ensure Health and Safety compliance across the business. You will be the gatekeeper to safety systems, monitoring and following up closely to ensure corrective actions are in place. 

Key responsibilities: 

  • Management and monitoring of incident and hazard data 
  • Providing guidance to workers and management across all health and safety processes and matters 
  • Creating policies, SOPs and reports - Identifying improvement opportunities and providing trusted advice 
  • Risk management including risk assessments and risk registers
  • Developing, implementing and maintaining a HS management system across the business

If you are a person who:

  • Has significant Health and Safety experience within a HS Advisor role
  • Understands and has strong working knowledge of NZ health and safety legislation and best practice
  • Has previous experience in risk management and health and safety systems/frameworks 
  • Can work autonomously and proactively
  • Is system and IT savvy
